August is National Immunization Awareness Month!

Is your pet up-to-date on her immunizations? Vaccines help prevent many illnesses and is one of the easiest ways to help her live a long, healthy life.

Vaccinations help prepare the body's immune system to fight the invasion of disease-causing organisms. If a pet is ever exposed to the real disease, his immune system is now prepared to recognize and fight it off entirely or reduce the severity of the illness.

Lefebvre Veterinary Medical Center can best determine a vaccine schedule for your pet. This will depend on the type of vaccine, your pet's age, medical history, environment and lifestyle. Typically, puppies and kittens receive vaccinations starting at 6-8 weeks of age and will continue to get vaccinated at 3-4 week intervals until 16 weeks old. Adult dogs and cats might receive certain vaccines annually, while others might be given every 3 years or longer.
